Vol. 4: Not Home For The Holidays

A Photo Series by Spencer Blacketer-Carlson

Statement: I haven't spent a holiday with my family really since moving from Southern California to the Midwest. Tradition and holiday rituals were always a huge part of my families structure. Removing myself from this was one of the biggest adjustments I faced when becoming a Chicago transplant. These images were taken on Christmas, New Years Eve, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day and Fourth of July. My reachable family unit went from dozens to just two and this decrease was always the most apparent on holidays. These images depict the ways I've attempted to create my own ways of celebrating when family is no where near.
