My Revolution

My Revolution

My Revolution

A Poem by Sahar Fathi

Today,

My revolution was

Not giving up

When he cried.

My revolution was

Pumping all night

So he could

Be outraged

By the state of the world

(His dirty diaper)

Today,

My revolution

Was remembering

All the mamas before me

Who didn’t give up

Even when the men

They birthed

Shut them down

Remembering

The mamas who

Marched in tears

Carrying babes

On their backs.

Breastfed

While enslaved,

Incarcerated,

Ignored,

All the mamas who

Survived

Today,

I am the mama.

I am the revolution.

I am me.
